Below is an interesting article from Tennis BC dated March 5, 2021. We faced this challenge back in 2017 & successfully defended our position of "no PB lines on tennis courts & PB should have dedicated courts". I hope the removal of PB lines doesn't damage the tennis court surfaces.

Joint Tennis BC/Pickleball BC Committee. As many of you are aware, there have been increasing challenges over the past several years resulting from the addition of pickleball lines on tennis courts. In many regions around the province, adding pickleball lines to existing tennis courts has been the most cost-effective way of meeting the needs of pickleball players, but this “solution” has too often created more problems than it has solved.

Tennis BC and Pickleball BC have decided to address this situation directly and have struck a committee of representatives from both sports. The purpose of the committee is to develop a joint strategy that we hope will ultimately result in the creation of more dedicated pickleball courts and the removal of pickleball lines from tennis courts. One of the key principles underpinning the work of this committee is a commitment to open and respectful communication.

The first meeting of the joint committee took place last week and was a very positive start to this initiative. The committee is planning to have a signed Memorandum of Understanding between Tennis BC and Pickleball BC within the next several weeks. We will provide updates on this important work as developments occur.

Someone did a fantastic job shoveling snow at Anderton yesterday.  Much as I understand and admire the enthusiasm and hate to be Debbie Downer, the club has received pretty clear and firm communications from the Town of Comox over the years.  Please do not shovel or scrape (even with plastic) snow and ice from the courts.

When? Saturday March 14 10:00 AM- 2:00 PM

Why? Play some tennis, meet old and new members, pay registration fees if you haven't already done so ( strongly suggest you pay on line before you come), coffee and of course donuts

Wear? Tennis apparel and perhaps long johns as cooler temperatures (but sunny) are forcasted, smiles are definitely mandatory

    See you on the courts,

The first club event of the year will take place from 10 - 2 pm March 14th.   Traditionally called “Sign-up Day”, it’s an opportunity for those who have not renewed on-line to renew their memberships and sign up for leagues.  However, since the majority of our members now sign up on line, Sign-Up day is now an opportunity to meet the executive, connect with fellow members over coffee and doughnuts and learn about ways to contribute to the club.   We will also be holding an Special General Meeting around noon to approve the financial statements for 2019.  Bring your kit,  if the weather co-operates there should be the chance to play a little social tennis.

    Message from Mark Chase

Hello, In the wake of the pending sale of Westwood Tennis Club in Nanaimo, a group of local tennis enthusiasts has formed to create a new tennis facility here.  FITIN (Foundation for Indoor Tennis In Nanaimo).  Individuals may sign up for the news list by emailing fitin-news-subscribe@googlegroups.com If you know of anyone in the mid-island area who may be interested in volunteering, please direct them to email fitin-org@googlegroups.com. Thank you for your support! Cheers, Mark Chase, Moderator

The CVRD contacted me with a request to distribute this survey to our members.

It is very quick and easy to fill out.  https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/9RSNDCR

Please take the time to fill this out, as it will be used by the municipalities and the CVRD, to make decisions about current and future outdoor courts.

Please forward this to tennis playing friends who are not members of the club.  It will be important that CVRD gets a good response from the general tennis community.  Couples should each fill out a survey (but will need to do it on different devices).

The club has purchased a new leafer blower.

To thank the Town of Comox for the beautiful job they did resurfacing courts 5&6 we would like to engage the membership to keep courts 5&6 free of debris.  This will go a long way to maintain the surface and keep the courts playable.

Please consider signing up for week here or there for court clearing duties.   The link below takes you to a sign up sheet.  No need to save, just type your name next to a week that can commit to.

The battery and charger are plugged in next to the ball machine in the equipment room.  The blower itself is up on a shelf.   It's really easy to use and has lots of power.
