Someone did a fantastic job shoveling snow at Anderton yesterday.  Much as I understand and admire the enthusiasm and hate to be Debbie Downer, the club has received pretty clear and firm communications from the Town of Comox over the years.  Please do not shovel or scrape (even with plastic) snow and ice from the courts.

    December 4, 2020

The Provincial Health Authority and Tennis BC have moved back to Level 2 (more restrictive) from Level 3.  The following is copied directly from the relevant section of the health directive.

    On Court management:

    - Ensure NO physical contact between players. Consider touching racquets rather than shaking hands.

    - Each court can be used. We recommend staggered start times to reduce congestion at start and end times.

    Singles or Doubles?

    - No doubles allowed at this time.

    Seating:

All seating must be set apart the 3-metre appropriate distance.

    Personal Sanitation:

    - Each player should carry their own hand sanitizer for use during their match.

    - Although each person is accountable for their own health, the safety of others is at risk also with Covid-19.

Everyone should be tasked with monitoring others for signs & symptoms & have a central person in charge that will handle any issues that arise.

The first club event of the year will take place from 10 - 2 pm March 14th.   Traditionally called “Sign-up Day”, it’s an opportunity for those who have not renewed on-line to renew their memberships and sign up for leagues.  However, since the majority of our members now sign up on line, Sign-Up day is now an opportunity to meet the executive, connect with fellow members over coffee and doughnuts and learn about ways to contribute to the club.   We will also be holding an Special General Meeting around noon to approve the financial statements for 2019.  Bring your kit,  if the weather co-operates there should be the chance to play a little social tennis.

Below is a link  to the brochure produced by SITA, listing contact and tournament information for Vancouver Island.  I also put the copies mailed to me in the club-house.

This is the link to Tennis BC's newsletter.  There's a subscribe button, if you wish to get the feed directly to your inbox.  Interesting to see what's going on around the province.

    Message from Mark Chase

Hello, In the wake of the pending sale of Westwood Tennis Club in Nanaimo, a group of local tennis enthusiasts has formed to create a new tennis facility here.  FITIN (Foundation for Indoor Tennis In Nanaimo).  Individuals may sign up for the news list by emailing fitin-news-subscribe@googlegroups.com If you know of anyone in the mid-island area who may be interested in volunteering, please direct them to email fitin-org@googlegroups.com. Thank you for your support! Cheers, Mark Chase, Moderator

    About this group

This is an email distribution list for those who wish to receive news/announcements from FITIN, the Foundation for Indoor Tennis In Nanaimo. Emails will be sent out at a frequency of once per week at most, and once per month at a minimum.

The CVRD contacted me with a request to distribute this survey to our members.

It is very quick and easy to fill out.  https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/9RSNDCR

Please take the time to fill this out, as it will be used by the municipalities and the CVRD, to make decisions about current and future outdoor courts.

Please forward this to tennis playing friends who are not members of the club.  It will be important that CVRD gets a good response from the general tennis community.  Couples should each fill out a survey (but will need to do it on different devices).

    Thanks,

    Catherine

The club has purchased a new leafer blower.

To thank the Town of Comox for the beautiful job they did resurfacing courts 5&6 we would like to engage the membership to keep courts 5&6 free of debris.  This will go a long way to maintain the surface and keep the courts playable.

Please consider signing up for week here or there for court clearing duties.   The link below takes you to a sign up sheet.  No need to save, just type your name next to a week that can commit to.

    https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1zqP4x8qFqI0MueQUHZo_hSr-guOVnAb_fNIsZ7We1QQ/edit?usp=sharing

The battery and charger are plugged in next to the ball machine in the equipment room.  The blower itself is up on a shelf.   It's really easy to use and has lots of power.

    Thanks,

    Catherine
