    Happy New Year.

Just received update from Marion & Pat, the courts at Anderton are icy. They are currently at the club house so please feel free to drop by the club house.

Due to icy courts, no tennis until conditions improve.

The  August TGIF was a huge success with approximately  forty players attending some of whom were new  or visitors to the club. Food and desert was of course up to the usual standard but the big addition was a massive stuffed pasta dish supplied by Roberta Tura. Everyone commented on this dish - thanks Roberta for your thoughtfulness!

Thanks to Mike Gould for donating a bicycle to the Canada Day draw on behalf of the club. As the photo shows, a young fellow named Logan had a great Canada Day thanks to Mike "Santa with Shades".

" The Comox Valley Tennis Club hosted the first Friday evening tennis for new members last evening and it was a great success. The event started at 5:00 PM and all six courts were put to good use. The new members of the club had the opportunity to meet and play with other new members plus interact with several not so new members of the club. Many thanks to Annette Mayo who played a key role in working with everyone and encouraging participation in the leagues, Pat McGrath who demonstrated the ball machine, Marion McGrath who made the delicious popcorn and the wonderful enthusiasm and participation of Shirley Kirk, Sheila Ives, Marilyn Peeters, Dawn Christian, Gillian Northwood and Susan Bosveld-Bowyer.. We couldn't have done it without these member volunteers.

These Friday evening events will continue until the end of April so the invitation is out once again to all new members and any other members of the club who would like to join in. 5:00 PM at the Anderton Courts in Comox and of course more popcorn! "

Mother nature was kind to us on the 2nd day of 2016, while the east coast was hit by more snow, we (the 35 +) keen tennis players were out on the courts.

No one suffered frost bite but there were several questionable line calls.

As always, Marion & Pat put on wonderful food - homemade soup & bread and various other goodies.  An excellent way to kick off 2016!

The 2015 Comox Valley Tennis Club Xmas Party was held on Dec. 11th and was a great success, with 72 members and guests attending.  D'Esterre house in Comox was the venue, and it was ideal - so much so that we plan to rebook it for the 2016 Xmas party. Approximately $200 worth of food was collected and donated to the foodbank.

The food/drinks were excellent, as was the music.  Many thanks to the organizers, volunteers, and attendees for a fun night of dining and dancing:

Some of the guests (while still sober)

    More guests (no longer sober)

Susan Bosveld-Bowyer did an excellent job obtaining gifts from sponsors (over half the attendees received gifts)

Brenda Dean rocks on the dance floor (as well as the courts)

Pat and Marion McGrath did a superb job organizing the food (as they always do)

The Comox Valley Tennis Club (CVTC) recently completed its 2015 playing season with the running of its annual Club tournament played on the Anderton Park courts in Comox.

In the A Mixed Doubles event Rob and Diane Calder defeated Joe Yelder and Annette Mayo in a long match that was decided by a third set tie breaker. Earlier in the Season the Calders also won the mixed doubles event in the Lewis Park tournament. In the B Mixed Doubles event,  Peter Hagberg and his steady partner Judy Francis defeated Shirley Kirk and Dave McLeod.

In the Singles Championship the final once again saw the 2013 champion Rob Calder pitted against Berand Henckel. This year however, saw Henckel using his steady ground strokes to outlast Calder in a match made particularly interesting by the unpredictable afternoon winds!

The Women’s Doubles event was won by Sheila Ives and Annette Mayo who defeated Cathy Cockwell and Diane Calder in a tough three setter. The men’s doubles again saw Berand Henckel and Rob Calder on opposite sides of the net. Henckel and partner Oliver Ramsey defeated Calder and Mike Gould in three sets.

During the Windup events the Comox Valley Tennis Club conducted its Annual Meeting and election of Executive Members for next season. Tony Wong was elected President. He is joined on the Executive by Vice Presidents Adam Duncan and Steven Crampton, Secretary, David McLeod and Treasurer and Past President, Don Axtell. Also elected at the meeting were Pat McGrath and Susan Bosveld-Bowyer, Peter Hagberg, Judy Francis and Ron Olsen. The Meeting also gave a vote of thanks to retiring Executive Member, Cathy Curry, who has served the club for many years in a variety of capacities including Junior Development Chair and Club President. Also recognized were Danielle Caldwell, who served as Secretary and Susie Frazer a former Treasurer and League coordinator.

The Tennis Club again offered members a varied slate of competitive leagues and social events. In addition to The Club Tournament , the “Any Two For Tennis” mixed double tournament was again held, exchanges were organized with the Powell River Tennis Club and a team event with club members representing different countries proved popular. The Club’s Junior Development Lessons were again offered by local tennis instructor and tennis enthusiast Brenda Dean.
