The club Season Wrap Up tournaments and AGM were held again this past September. At the AGM this year’s executive was elected / press-ganged – and are listed to the right.
While the weather wasn’t 100% co-operative and turnout was a little low, fun was had and some spirited tennis played. A big shout out to Don Axtell for running a smooth tournament & to Dave McLeod for organizing breakfast, lunch, refreshments & snacks. Well done team.
While we are still planning a season ender this coming September the executive welcomes feedback from membership on ways to boost participation. Please don’t hesitate to contact us with any suggestions!
This fall the club set up a Facebook Page. https://www.facebook.com/comoxvalleytennisclub/ If you are on Facebook, please like the page. This could be a great tool to raise the profile of the club in the community, and we will start using it this year to promote club events in addition to our regular email blasts. It is an open page so that means anyone can post, so please help build momentum for the page by posting your pictures and tennis related stories. Many thanks to Sheri Rodwell for setting this up for us.
Speaking of Sheri, in order to set up the Facebook Page she needed a Club Logo, so she donated her time and cash to have this great looking logo designed for the club. We have this logo stored at Finelines Embroidery and Screenpinting in Comox, as a file ready to be screen printed or embroidered. Individuals, teams, coffee groups, or whoever, can go to Finelines and order themselves up some posh new kit. Finelines will also print or embroider clothing and accessories that you bring in yourself.
The tennis club Christmas Party was held on Dec. 8th again with 81 members & guests in attendance. Many thanks to the team who put this together, especially Dave McLeod (setting up and tearing down a speakeasy is no mean task) and Janet Luczanko for quarterbacking the whole night. Cloves catering provided a fantastic ham & turkey dinner and as usual, tennis players (with and without injuries) lit up the dance floor.
Mark down Friday, December 14th on your calendar for the 2018 CVTC Christmas Party.
The 2018 tennis season planning is well underway, with Ron Clough (facilities) and Janet Luczanko (social/food) stepping into the huge shoes left by Pat and Marion McGrath, who are taking a very well deserved break.
We are also looking at repeating our very successful inter club visits with the Campbell River, Powell River & Arrowsmith Tennis Clubs. Please contact the executive if you would like to help organize some of these events.
So get your tennis gear ready, mark your calendars and watch your email for all the great events listed below. See you on the courts !
